Supporting the Los Angeles Police Department
A safe city does not happen by accident. It is built every day by the men and women who put on a uniform, step into unpredictable situations, and protect millions of Angelenos with professionalism, courage, and restraint. The Los Angeles Police Department remains one of the most essential pillars of public safety in our city, and the overwhelming majority of officers serve with integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to the communities they patrol.
These officers enforce the law while simultaneously protecting the very people who may be placing them in danger. They respond to violent crimes, traffic collisions, domestic emergencies, and life-threatening situations, often with only seconds to make decisions that affect their safety and the safety of the public. Every shift carries risk. Every call could be the one that changes their lives forever. Yet they continue to serve because they believe in duty, honor, and the responsibility to safeguard our neighborhoods.
Respect and Responsibility in Police Interactions
Public safety is a shared responsibility. When residents interact with police, whether during a traffic stop, a call for service, or a street encounter, respectful behavior is essential. Simple actions such as keeping your hands visible during a traffic stop, listening to instructions, and remaining calm help ensure that the interaction is safe for everyone involved.
Parents play a critical role as well. Teaching children from a young age to respect authority, follow lawful instructions, and understand the role of police officers builds a foundation for safer communities. When young people grow up seeing officers as protectors rather than adversaries, trust grows and conflict decreases.
Unfortunately, some activists and influencers encourage the opposite, telling people not to comply with lawful instructions, to challenge officers during stops, or to escalate situations unnecessarily. This kind of rhetoric does not promote justice or accountability. It creates tension, increases danger, and leads to confrontations that nobody needs. Compliance during a lawful stop is not only common sense, it is a matter of safety.
The Cost of Non-Compliance and Opportunistic Lawsuits
In recent years, Los Angeles has paid out enormous sums in lawsuits involving police encounters. Many of these cases stem from individuals who refused to comply with instructions, fled from officers, or escalated routine interactions into dangerous confrontations. When lawsuits arise from these situations, the financial burden falls on taxpayers, not on those who created the conflict.
Meanwhile, some attorneys aggressively advertise to encourage lawsuits, knowing they stand to earn 30 to 40 percent of any settlement. This dynamic creates a system where conflict becomes profitable, and the public pays the price.
The City of Los Angeles must do more to defend officers who act within policy, follow their training, and make split-second decisions under extreme pressure. When officers are forced to choose between hesitation and survival, we should not punish them for protecting themselves or the public. We should stand with them.
Backing the Officers Who Protect Us
The truth is simple: 99% of officers serve honorably, make sound judgment calls, and uphold the law with professionalism. They deserve a city government that supports them, defends them, and ensures they are not unfairly targeted by opportunistic lawsuits or political pressure.
Supporting our police does not mean ignoring accountability. It means recognizing the reality of their work, the dangers they face, and the sacrifices they make. It means giving them the staffing, training, and legal protections necessary to do their jobs effectively.
Los Angeles cannot thrive without safe streets, strong neighborhoods, and a police department that is respected, not undermined.
A Call to Honor and Support Our Officers
Let us honor the men and women who stand between danger and our families. Let us support the officers who respond to emergencies at all hours, who run toward danger when others run away, and who protect our children, seniors, and small businesses every single day.
Let us back them with laws, policies, and leadership that recognize their service and shield them from frivolous lawsuits that drain public resources and weaken public safety.
A safer Los Angeles begins with supporting those who protect it.

Apoyemos al Departamento de Policia de Los Angeles
La seguridad de una ciudad no ocurre por casualidad. Se construye dia a dia gracias a los hombres y mujeres que se ponen un uniforme, enfrentan situaciones impredecibles y protegen a millones de angelinos con profesionalismo, valentia y compromiso. El Departamento de Policia de Los Angeles sigue siendo uno de los pilares mas importantes de la seguridad publica, y la gran mayoria de sus oficiales sirven con integridad, respeto y dedicacion hacia las comunidades que patrullan.
Estos oficiales hacen cumplir la ley mientras protegen a las mismas personas que, en ocasiones, pueden ponerlos en peligro. Responden a crimenes violentos, accidentes de trafico, emergencias domesticas y situaciones de vida o muerte, muchas veces con solo segundos para tomar decisiones que afectan su seguridad y la del publico. Cada turno implica riesgo. Cada llamada puede cambiar sus vidas para siempre. Aun asi, continuan sirviendo porque creen en el deber, el honor y la responsabilidad de resguardar nuestros vecindarios.
Respeto y Responsabilidad en las Interacciones con la Policia
La seguridad publica es una responsabilidad compartida. Cuando los residentes interactuan con la policia, ya sea durante una parada de trafico, una llamada de emergencia o un encuentro en la calle, el comportamiento respetuoso es esencial. Acciones simples, como mantener las manos visibles durante una parada, escuchar las instrucciones y mantener la calma, ayudan a garantizar que la interaccion sea segura para todos.
Los padres tambien juegan un papel fundamental. Ensenar a los ninos desde temprana edad a respetar la autoridad, seguir instrucciones legales y comprender el papel de los oficiales crea una base para comunidades mas seguras. Cuando los jovenes crecen viendo a los oficiales como protectores y no como adversarios, la confianza aumenta y los conflictos disminuyen.
Lamentablemente, algunos activistas fomentan lo contrario, alentando a las personas a no cumplir con instrucciones legales, desafiar a los oficiales o escalar situaciones innecesariamente. Este tipo de mensajes no promueven justicia ni responsabilidad. Generan tension, aumentan el peligro y provocan confrontaciones que nadie necesita. Cumplir con una instruccion legal no solo es sentido comun, es una cuestion de seguridad.
El Costo de la No-Cooperacion y las Demandas Oportunistas
En los ultimos anos, la Ciudad de Los Angeles ha pagado sumas enormes en demandas relacionadas con encuentros policiales. Muchas de estas situaciones surgen de personas que se negaron a cumplir instrucciones, intentaron huir o convirtieron interacciones rutinarias en confrontaciones peligrosas. Cuando estas demandas avanzan, la carga financiera recae sobre los contribuyentes, no sobre quienes generaron el conflicto.
Mientras tanto, algunos abogados promueven agresivamente demandas, sabiendo que pueden ganar entre el 30% y el 40% de cualquier acuerdo. Este sistema convierte el conflicto en un negocio rentable, y el publico termina pagando el precio.
La Ciudad de Los Angeles debe hacer mas para defender a los oficiales que actuan conforme a las politicas, siguen su entrenamiento y toman decisiones en fracciones de segundo bajo presion extrema. Cuando un oficial debe elegir entre dudar o proteger su vida y la del publico, no deberiamos castigarlo por cumplir con su deber. Debemos respaldarlo.
Respaldemos a Quienes Nos Protegen
La realidad es clara: el 99% de los oficiales sirven con honor, toman decisiones responsables y aplican la ley con profesionalismo. Merecen un gobierno municipal que los apoye, los defienda y evite que sean blanco de demandas oportunistas o presiones politicas.
Apoyar a nuestra policia no significa ignorar la responsabilidad. Significa reconocer la realidad de su trabajo, los peligros que enfrentan y los sacrificios que hacen. Significa darles el personal, la capacitacion y las protecciones legales necesarias para cumplir su labor de manera efectiva.
Los Angeles no puede prosperar sin calles seguras, vecindarios fuertes y un departamento de policia respetado, no debilitado.
Un Llamado a Honrar y Apoyar a Nuestros Oficiales
Honremos a los hombres y mujeres que se colocan entre el peligro y nuestras familias. Apoyemos a los oficiales que responden a emergencias a cualquier hora, que corren hacia el riesgo cuando otros se alejan, y que protegen a nuestros ninos, adultos mayores y pequenos negocios todos los dias.
Respaldemoslos con leyes, politicas y liderazgo que reconozcan su servicio y los protejan de demandas frivolas que drenan recursos publicos y debilitan la seguridad de todos.
Una Los Angeles mas segura comienza apoyando a quienes nos protegen.
